The Portland Timbers are hosting an affordable soccer camp in Pendleton, where staff will coach youth during a week-long camp from Aug 11-14. The Pendleton Youth Soccer Association partnered with the Portland Timbers Football Club for this annual recreational soccer camp program. Youth ages 5 to 13 are eligible to register for the camp until Friday, Aug 8. As of July 31, 71 campers were signed up. Staff from the Timbers will coach the children, focusing on specific skills through activities and exercises. The camp is a great opportunity for players to improve their skills before the start of the fall season. In addition to training, campers also receive a t-shirt and a free ticket to a Portland Timbers game during the season. Jill Gregg, the Pendleton Youth Soccer Association President, said the camp brings energy and excitement to the kids. The cost of the camp is $50 per player, thanks to sponsors who helped lower the cost. The Portland Timbers Football Club normally charges $240 to $275 per player for an equivalent camp. The camp will be divided into groups based on age and grade level, with each coach focusing on a specific skill. The Pendleton Youth Soccer Association is hoping the camp will attract kids from across Eastern Oregon. The association's president, Jill Gregg, believes the camp will give families information about the soccer world and expose them to trained coaches. The Portland Timbers's staff will provide a coaches clinic on Aug 12 for local coaches, which will be free thanks to sponsors. The clinic will offer support and insight for local coaches, many of whom are parents who never played soccer but want to support their children.
